Well, its true right? Technology has changed our lives, it has brought us out of the paper age and into the digital age. We are free of the endless stacks of papers, the books, the bulky folders and binders full of information. Only... what happens when you're without your computer?????
I love my computers. All of them, the ones at home and at work. At work they make my job so easy, I work at top speed, I am so productive and can access just about any information int he world with a few clicks and keystrokes. But if our system goes down? Everything comes to a screeching halt!!! People stop coming in, because with out our computers its very difficult to find the information. And alot of my job can't be done without those computers.
And lets talk about home. I took 2 days off work this week, thinking I could get caught up on some online stuff, blogg and post like crazy and still get a nap in. WRONG! The first day I was so sick I went from the bed to the couch to the bed, and then to the recliner. So , even a laptop doesn't do you any good when you can't stay vertical. The second day, I am feeling better & am ready to go. My laptop is out of commission temporarily, I should be getting it back next week (hopefully!!) So downstairs to my desktop and I get into position. Only, no Internet connection! yikes! My hubby is checking the connections, sending me up & down the stairs to check the lights on the modem, restart the computer, turn off the modem, turn on the modem, check the wires on the router, restart the computer again, disconnect the phone cords, reconnect the phone cords, restart the computer, run back upstairs and check the lights on the modem.... Eventually he got it connected again, and then when I finally had Internet again, I didn't' even want to use it anymore. :(

I get frusturated with computers a lot too. They're not as reliable as paper because, of course, they mess up occasionally. They are a lot easier, however. I suppose that's why professors always urge students to have backups of work.
Our computers at work go down occasionally and it's chaos as well. We have to hand write all the receipes and when they finally come back up, we have to re-do the receipts then send all the customers the copy from the computer printout. It makes for a lot of extra work.
Sure, I love technolgy, but I wish it didn't skrew up as often as it does. It does get better with time, it seems.
LOL. Man did this hapen recently to everybody or what? My internet was off for two days over this past weekend. I dont even know why. I called the tech, and they came out and fixed it, but I was going crazy. Gotta check my email, got check my online classes!!! And I just got a laptop for an early grad gift, but it doesnt have internet. I was going crazy! (But it's fixed now!)My current and previous jobs have relied almost solely on computer usage, and has simplified my job description tremendously. For example, my current job has a site that just upgraded. It is so much better than the older one. I can complete several work orders at the same time, and it even does computer generated bids! But ut's still in the process of upgrading so the site is extremely slow. I'm stuck thinking, yea I can do many at a time, but it takes too long. Huh......I just wish they'd hurry up and work these kinks out so I can get crackin'!
I completely understand! This weekend I went shopping in Chicago and I wanted to transfer some money online from my savings to my checking. My computer wasn't working right so I gave up and decided to use the ATM instead. When I got to an ATM in Chicago, it wouldn't let me take out money so I found myself spending a half an hour in a Subway sandwich shop trying to transfer funds on the internet of my boyfriend's phone. When it FINALLY worked, it told me since it was after 6 pm the money would not be available until the next day!
I gave up and used my credit card.
I guess we all figure the trouble and hassle of computers is worth it. I imagine in the near future, and beyond, it will only get better...hopefully.
Today at work, my boss elft for the day early and we have been pretty slow (at the bank), so I had free reign of the internet and could feel OK wasting time, the only problem was I couldn't think of anything to do. "Window" shopping online is no fun, and MySpace & Facebook are blocked out. Hmmmm.
